The Grand Theft Auto series is known for its gritty storytelling and morally ambiguous characters, and GTA V is no exception. However, according to the massive source code leak that made headlines earlier this year, Rockstar Games had planned an even more shocking and brutal ending for one of the game’s beloved protagonists, Trevor Philips.

Here’s what could have been!

Trevor Philips is known for his chaotic and truly unhinged personality, making him one of GTA V’s most unforgettable characters. However, the original ending planned for Trevor was even more brutal than what players experienced in the final game. According to the leaked source code, one of the alternate endings involved Trevor being frozen in liquid nitrogen and then smashed to pieces by Michael with a 2×4 plank. It seems the devs were channeling their inner Mortal Kombat fans, huh?

This ending was ultimately scrapped in favor of a less graphic but equally intense conclusion where Trevor is doused in gasoline and set on fire. While the final version was shocking, the liquid nitrogen ending would have taken the brutality to another level, potentially causing an uproar among fans who have a love-hate relationship with Trevor’s character.

The liquid nitrogen ending wasn’t the only brutal fate planned for GTA V’s characters, though. The leaks also revealed an alternate ending for Michael, where Franklin would drop him from a tower into the spinning rotor blades of a police helicopter, chopping him to pieces

Furthermore, there was a plan for Lamar to replace Franklin as a playable character in the “Deathwish” ending, implying that Rockstar originally intended for this third choice to be, in fact, a suicide mission. These original endings were eventually toned down, most likely to avoid unnecessary controversy and strike a balance between shock value and storytelling.

As we look back at the intense endings of GTA V, it’s hard not to get excited about the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6. The leaks have inevitably set high expectations for the next installment in the series. Rockstar has confirmed that GTA 6 will return to Vice City and feature a pair of protagonists, rumored to be a Bonnie and Clyde-inspired crime duo, featuring the series’ first female protagonist, Lucia, and her partner-in-crime, Jason.

The trailer for GTA 6 – showcasing the vibrant and dangerous world of Vice City – has already generated immense hype in the community. Fans (us included) are eagerly anticipating how Rockstar will handle the new protagonists and whether the game will live up to the high expectations set by its predecessors.

With promises of a fresh take on the crime-filled world the studio is celebrated for, anticipation for GTA 6 continues to soar!
