Apart from being one of the best Spider-Man movies, Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was able to push the boundaries of animation and delivered an epic experience for the fans. Guillermo del Toro, who has been pretty vocal about his love for the medium of animation, also didn’t back away from sharing his admiration for the movie.
And with its sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse inching toward its release. Del Toro, who recently garnered an Oscar win for his stop-motion animation, Pinocchio, expressed his love for Sony’s magnum opus and shared his best wishes for the future of the sequel.
Guillermo del Toro commends Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse for its contribution to Animation
Guillermo del Toro recently expressed his love for Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and praised the movie for changing the landscape of animation. The director also commended its brilliant team of artists, who were able to craft a genre-defining experience for fans, and is assured that the sequel will be able to deliver a similar experience. He said,
“We are in a “Spartacus” moment in animation- and Spiderverse will mean a LOT to the medium. I am so happy about it being shepherded by creative, animation-loving minds and artists. I hope the very best for this film and every other film that tries to push the medium, the industry or the audience like they are.”
Del Toro is indeed right about Spider-verse’s contribution to the medium of animation and despite releasing 5 years earlier, its influence can still be felt in the industry.
The Influence of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse in Animation
Following the success of 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse, the movie was able to separate itself from the traditional style of 3D animation and pushed the boundaries of the medium. Since then, its influence can be felt in several movies, and Studios, especially DreamWorks. As they are stressing to make their movies more visually stylized, which is quite apparent in their recent works, including The Bad Guys and Puss in Boots 2.
Sony has also hasn’t failed to work in the footsteps of their Magnum Opus and was able to deliver another immaculate experience through 2021’s The Mitchells vs. the Machines.
But with their upcoming project, Spider-Verse: Across the Spider-Verse, both fans and Guillermo del Toro are assured that Sony will once again push the boundaries of the medium with their work. And following its trailer, it’s reasonable to assume that it might be able to recreate the same level of quality as its predecessor.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse is set to release on 2 June 2023.
