Over years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has given us many iconic bonds and moments. Among these, Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Downey Jr have developed one of the best friendships. The on-screen couple is one of the dearest friends in real life. But it was not like that since the start. When both the stars met for the first time, Paltrow was quite uncomfortable hanging out with Tony Stark fame due to his not-so-good reputation.
The fans have witnessed how Tony Stark and Pepper Pott’s relationship evolved throughout the entire Infinity Saga. Parallelly, the actor’s real-life friendship also started to grow deeper. Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Downey Jr’s friendship didn’t have a smooth start
Robert Downey Jr‘s controversial kickstart to his career is hardly unversed to any fan. The actor was subjected to many discussions at the start of his career due to his drug addiction. These issues led the Goop founder to be worried about her own reputation if she is spotted with the Iron Man star.
It was during an interview when Downey Jr revealed how he met Gwyneth Paltrow for the first time at a Film Festival in the 1990s. The actor recalled that the actress contacted a mutual friend to know more about the star as she was worried about his notorious reputation.
“She was like, ‘What is wrong with him? Who is this guy?’ She called him up asking, like, if it was going to be essentially bad for her reputation to be hanging out with me.”
But the Shakespeare in Love actress interrupted that it is not completely true. Although she agreed that the Sherlock Holmes actor had a ‘wild’ reputation, Paltrow also added that she was naive then.
“He was really wild, and I was very naive. I immediately took a shine to him … Then he went off the radar for a little while.”
Robert Downey Jr also laughed and praised how his Avengers co-star continued delivering hits while he was locked somewhere. But it can’t be denied that the actor came back stronger and went on to become no less than a legend after his iconic portrayal of Iron Man in the MCU. But no matter how much famous he had been, his friendship with Gwyneth Paltrow has always been at its best.
Robert Downey Jr’s friendship with Gwyneth Paltrow
Appearing in an interview, Gwyneth Paltrow openly revealed how she has a lovely friendship with the 57-year-old actor that prospered through the Marvel movies. She even praised it as one of her greatest career achievements.
“My relationship with Robert Downey Jr., which was obviously forged through all the Iron Man and Avengers movies. I feel like I was able to find an incredible, lifelong, inspirational partner and friend.”
On the other hand, the Tropic Thunder actor stated during an interview with Howard Stern that Paltrow and his wife Susan Downey are very good friends. He joked that the Seven actress has a “free pass” for on-screen kisses. But even after all that, Downey Jr. affirmed that he has a very happy married life.
