Halle Bailey’s Superior Opinion of her The Little Mermaid

During her exclusive with Edition, The Shine Bright singer stated that the role of Ariel is very close to her because the animated character has helped her to grow up. The singer stated that during her shoot she used to push herself to the edge and Ariel helped her a lot because she tells her that “you’ve always had it in you.”

“I feel like I learned so much through her. I auditioned when I was 18, got the role when I was 19, and I turn 23 this year. So I genuinely feel like [Ariel’s] helped me grow up. I pushed myself as far as I’ve ever pushed myself in life. And I feel like the message from her was to know that you’ve always had it in you.”

Halle Bailey continued that she was five when she first watched The Little Mermaid, and Ariel was her favorite Disney princess. However, the film was immensely criticized because of the sexism present in the animated film. But the singer promised that her film is suitable for this generation as it gives purpose, freedom, and what women want in life.

“I’m really excited for my version of the film because we’ve definitely changed that perspective of just her wanting to leave the ocean for a boy. It’s way bigger than that. It’s about herself, her purpose, her freedom, her life and what she wants.”

As women we are amazing, we are independent, we are modern, we are everything and above. And I’m glad that Disney is updating some of those themes.”

The trailer is being disliked by the criticizers because Halle Bailey’s skin color does not match the original features of the Disney Princess from the animated film. However, Josh Gad, the voice actor who played Olaf in Frozen came forward to silence the haters.

“Imagine being so broken and pathetic in life that your chief concern is the skin color of… a make-believe singing mermaid.”
