During the media tour of 1923, Helen Mirren candidly revealed details of her experience of working with her co-star Harrison Ford. Recalling her days of working on The Mosquito Coast alongside Ford, Mirren said it was very different back then.

“The relationship was obviously very, very different then because Harrison was already an enormous movie star and I was a theatre actress out of London and nobody had heard of me,” Mirren told The Times.

The Golda actor further said that now their “relationship is very different because I’ve sort of caught up with him.” At the time of The Mosquito Coast Mirren was new to the world of cinema while Ford was already living his stardom. “Well, I’ll never catch up with him completely but I’m a little bit closer than I was,” she added. Decades later, their collaboration has been fun for both actors.

Ford’s fandom in 1986 was also at an astonishing height. As Mirren recalled, they went to a party while filming the Peter Weir movie. The incident took place in Belize and Ford handled the person with his style.

“We went to this party and this woman put her face in his face and said, ‘I’m sure you think I know who you are, well I don’t… It was just so rude and thoughtless and horrible, and that’s the sort of thing he had to deal with. He dealt with it with great grace, I have to say. He was just like, ‘Well, OK,’” the Oscar winner told the outlet.

Ford, 81, has dominated the industry for decades with his charm and personality. He is not limited to one genre and is still very enthusiastic about his roles. “He had that carapace which is essential for people who have reached that level of popular stardom,” Mirren said of the Blade Runner star. “It’s so full-on, you have to develop some sort of defensive armor. He was always lovely to kids; grown-ups, not so much.” Their collaborated series 1923 is currently streaming on Paramount Plus.
