The much anticipated Hawkeye series has finally revealed its premiere date alongside the first photos of Renner’s Clint Barton meeting Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop. As part of Marvel Studios’ plans to include television series in its Phase Four to introduce lesser-known characters, Hawkeye is set to introduce Barton’s protégé Bishop as the next Hawkeye.
Jeremy Renner, who made his first appearance as Clint Barton in Thor (2011), has been a prominent character in the MCU for nearly a decade. However, the character has never been at the forefront despite the actor’s popularity among fans. As the most ‘human’ member of the Avengers, Clint Barton has always been the butt of most jokes as he is considered a legendary archer with no superpowers. But with the Hawkeye series, is expected to be a more grounded show that can better portray the prowess of Barton and Bishop.
The series will also introduce the first Deaf Native-American superhero Echo. Reportedly, a spin-off series based on Echo is also in the works. The character will be portrayed by Alaqua Cox. Florence Pugh, who played the role of Yelena Belova in Black Widow will also be appearing in the series. In the post-credits scene of Black Widow, it was revealed that Yelena will be out for vengeance after being assigned by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine to kill Clint Barton, whom she holds responsible for Natasha Romanoff’s death.
For the Hawkeye series, Madame Masque will reportedly be the major antagonist. The series is based on the critically acclaimed Hawkeye: My Life As A Weapon comic-book issue by Matt Fraction.
The first photos revealed by Entertainment Weekly have shown Kate Bishop and Clint Barton together. According to Renner, the character of Kate Bishop is a big fan of Clint Barton and his unparalleled proficiency with bow and arrows. She will also bring an onslaught of problems to Clint’s life to set things in motion.
[Kate is] a 22-year-old kid and she’s a big Hawkeye fan. She has a wonderfully annoying and equally charming manner about her, because she’s such a fangirl of Hawkeye. The relationship grows from that, but the biggest problem for Clint is Kate Bishop and the onslaught of problems that she brings into his life.
With the show now scheduled to premiere on November 24th, the last months of 2021 will be jam-packed with Marvel content. From Spider-Man: No Way to Home to Ms. Marvel, fans can finally rejoice after a relatively spaced-out release time period owing to the pandemic.
