Ezra Miller’s DC film The Flash is finally set to hit theatres this June after going through multiple issues and delays. The film has been in development for almost a decade as the studio first announced its plans for the Scarlet Speedster in 2013 after the release of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. However, the complications regarding the film’s director and the controversies surrounding the star of the film have caused issues for the DC superhero’s solo adventures.

It would be the second DC film to release after Zachary Levi’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods failed to have a positive opening for DC films in 2023. And it appears that the studio has some new plans for the Ezra Miller feature, as Warner Bros. has already shared updates regarding its streaming details.

Warner Bros. Revealed The Flash Streaming Details

While Ezra Miller’s The Flash is still months away from its release, the studio has already revealed its streaming details during Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max event. The Chairman & CEO of HBO & HBO Max Content, Casey Bloys, announced that the upcoming DC film would be available on their streaming service in fall 2023.

“The Flash will land on the service the fall after its exclusive run in theaters this June,” Casey Bloys said. The film is expected to release under the theatre-to-streaming window and is expected to be in theatres for 2 to 3 months before hitting the streaming platform. Shazam! 2 is also set to have its HBO Max premiere on May 23, 2023

And the studio is expected to take the same theatre-to-streaming approach for The Flash too. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO earlier talked about the studio’s approach toward its future releases and how the content could be elevated by releasing on a new screen.

David Zaslav’s Approach to Theatrical and Streaming Release

The CEO added that the value of the content and its viewership is “elevated again” when they move from theatres to streaming services. Zaslav gave examples of the 2022 films The Batman and Elvis, which were shifted to HBO Max shortly after their theatrical run.

“As films moved from one window to the next, their overall value is elevated, elevated, elevated. We saw this clearly demonstrated with The Batman and Elvis.”

Both films performed well at the box office and scored a pretty good viewership on streaming services as well. Matt Reeves’ The Batman garnered 4.1 Million viewers in its first week on the streaming platform.

Elvis also started trending once it was released on HBO Max. According to Nielsen, it has been streamed for about 2.7 billion minutes on HBO Max as of March 2023. Considering the positive test screenings of The Flash, it could have a decent theatrical run and could perform well on Max after its release.

The Flash will hit theatres on June 16, 2023.
