In a recent interview with Howard Stern on his podcast, the Mad Men star was able to talk about his life and all that he went through to become one of the best actors in the industry. He revealed his experiences with different people from the industry in different scenarios, even an encounter with Tom Cruise that paved a way for him to be a part of Top Gun: Maverick. He also revealed that he was once replaced by Favreau in Deep Impact. He said:

“I ended up going on a million auditions and not getting any of them,  I auditioned for big movies and big TV shows and all of these things, and I still to this day joke with Jon Favreau that he beat me out for a part in ‘Deep Impact.’”

Favreau’s character was named Gus Partenza, who was the astronaut that was sent with the mission of detouring the incoming comet out from direct collision with earth. While Hamm might’ve not been able to get that role, his career had much more to offer him in return.
