  • In one of their poorly received films, X-Men: Apocalypse, the film introduced colorful comic-accurate suits for the X-Men.
  • However, it was never used again and fans now want the MCU to use it for a James Marsden cameo.

X-Men: Apocalypse was one of the worst films to come out of the Fox X-Men Universe. It was a huge downgrade, especially after the critically acclaimed films, X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past. However, the film provided fans with one thing that could easily be described as the best so far. Cyclops’ comic-accurate suit in one scene in the film was better than all the previous films.

Fans hope that the MCU can now use this particular suit if they intend to bring back James Marsden for Cyclops. Fox X-Men universe was initially against any kind of comic-accurate suit but later came up with the blue and yellow suit for the mutants in the James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender version.

In the original X-Men trilogy, all mutants including James Marsden‘s Cyclops used black leather suits. These were intended as protective body suits for when the X-Men went into a fight. However, when the younger version of Cyclops, played by Tye Sheridan, appeared in X-Men: Apocalypse, he used a fan-favorite version of the suit.

Throughout the entire film, Sheridan dons casual attire and changes into a suit only for the final confrontation against Apocalypse. It was only towards the end of the film that the more interesting colorful uniforms were introduced to the X-Men team.

Sheridan’s uniform was blue and black in color, with a yellow-lined strap running along his chest and over the shoulder. His suit also had a red X symbol in the middle which was one of the defining features of the comic book costumes. This version of the suit came with a larger visor, which was silver in color.

Interestingly, fans only got one or two glimpses of the character in costume in the film. But an X fan @NebsGoodTakes found clean behind-the-scenes footage of the actor in costume. When fans saw what they had missed more clearly, they wanted the MCU to bring it back for their upcoming X-Men projects.

Some fans even went on to suggest that Marsden or Sheridan should make an appearance in the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars wearing this costume. Some fans were furious at Fox for keeping the comic-accurate suit only for a few seconds in the films. Some of the fan reactions read:

Besides this one aspect, not much worked in favor of X-Men: Apocalypse. Oscar Isaac, who played the villain Apocalypse, shared with The New York Times that the filmmakers could have put in a little extra effort to make his character more appealing to the mass audience.

It Is Not The First Time That X-Men Films Almost Gave Fans Comic Accurate Suit

Hugh Jackman‘s famous yellow costume from Deadpool & Wolverine almost made it into one X-Men film. James Mangold had plans to bring the costume in his film, The Wolverine. He shot an alternate ending scene where he teased the classic yellow and brown suit for Jackman’s character. It was ultimately left out of the film but featured in the Unleashed Edition of the film.

During an interview with ScreenRant, Mangold explained the suit’s absence sharing that it was too narcissistic of Logan to put on a special branded outfit to do good deeds. He explained that the loner personality of the character wouldn’t wear a colorful attention-grabbing costume. Moreover, the costume wouldn’t have suited the old-man Logan storyline in the sequel film Logan.

Both X-Men: Apocalypse and The Wolverine are now available for streaming on Disney+.
