Rocky Johnson has lived the life of a wrestler and he didn’t want his son Dwayne Johnson to enter the world of professional wrestling. Johnson Junior was a football player before getting into wrestling and his coach wanted the renewal of the contract for another year but Dwayne rejected the offer hoping to become a wrestler like his father.

“Dude, we got in the biggest f*cking fight really the biggest and he didn’t want me to do it,” Dwayne Johnson said in an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience.

“And we got into the biggest f*cking fight. My mom’s crying, I’m crying and he said, ‘What do you think you have to offer?’ I said, ‘I don’t know.’ Maybe I’m going to f*cking suck but I got to give this a shot. Ultimately it got to a place where I said, ‘Either you’re going to help train me I’m asking you to help train me or I’ll I’ll go to somebody else’ and at that time Brett Hart and that whole family had his dungeon up in Calgary I said, ‘Maybe I’ll go to Calgary.’ He agreed to train me but I realized he didn’t want to see that happen because he was, he felt like, hey look around I was one of the successful ones in wrestling but I got a little f*cking apartment that I got to I can’t even afford to pay 500 bucks a month I don’t want this for you so we got into a huge fight he eventually trained me.”

After three months of training, Rocky Johnson felt his son was ready and called a guy named Pat Patterson at WWE who was close to Vince McMahon and eventually got into the business.

Pat Patterson who was Vince McMahon’s right-hand man came to see Johnson’s training but looking at his facial reaction, Johnson thought, “Did I just f*ck?” Little did he know he went home and called Vince McMahon, “He said you got to see this f*cking kid and Vince said, ‘Who?’ ‘Rocky Johnson’s son,’ he goes. ‘All right let me see him, bring him out this Monday on Raw and I’ll throw him out in the match before the show starts,’” Johnson revealed on The Joe Rogan Experience.

“So Vince says to Pat, ‘Okay great how long has he been working?’ He goes, ‘he hasn’t worked.’ He goes, ‘What do you mean he’s never had a match he’s like he’s never had a f*cking match? I’m not bringing him out he’s never had a match he’s gonna stink up the ring. Pat said, ‘Just trust me so they fly me out Corpus Christie 14,000 people I got and have my first match and I’m 24 years old. I have my first match uh because usually when you break in you know you’re wrestling at a farm or there’s a barn 10 people. 14,000 people, I wrestled the Brooklyn Brawler who’s famous in the world of wrestling.”

After the match, he went backstage, “Everyone’s hey great job great job keep working,” The Rock recalled. “I see Vince McMahon he says you did a good job, uh but be prepared I’m going to give you a little bit more tomorrow I went great okay.” It was quite a ride for the Johnson but he certainly owed a great deal to his father for his remarkable success, he admitted on many occasions.
