He once again garnered much attention when his 2022 film, Top Gun: Maverick broke the charts by becoming the second-highest-grossing film of last year. Having grossed $1.493 billion worldwide, it was a critical and commercial success becoming the highest-grossing film in his career.

While the film got 6 Oscar nominations, many witnessed that he was not nominated for the Best Actor category despite gaining much attention for his role. His co-star, Miles Teller who was a crucial member of the film, shared his insights on the Oscars snub.

The 36-year-old actor, Milles Teller who played Rooster in Top Gun: Maverick shared that Tom Cruise who reprised his role of Maverick from 1986’s Top Gun should have deserved an Oscar nomination.

Speaking with the Associated Press, he kept adamant about his belief by stating that Cruise’s Oscars nomination was “100 Percent [snubbed].”

He continued,

“And I’m not saying whoever got nominated didn’t deserve to get nominated.” 

However, he pointed out that the Mission: Impossible actor has possibly done his best to portray that role.

“But when you think about everything that he’s doing in that film.”

He continued to praise his co-star by highlighting how his hard work deserved that nomination.

Teller emphasized how Cruise gave his best shot for this role. Mentioning how people give enough credit to other talents, his skills were overlooked.

“What I’ve said when I’ve been talking about Tom’s performance in this film, we give actors so much credit in movies for performing skills, for playing instruments or singing or gaining weight and losing weight.”

He continued that the 60-year-old actor’s skills are a “product of thousands of hours practice” which he presents to the world. He further continued that talent requires much “work and effort” which also requires a lot of time.

In the case of Cruise, “he does it so seamlessly you don’t realize” that he also had to go through much effort to perfectly excel in that role. Not just in Top Gun 2, the actor has continued to push his limits by working in some of the hard-core action movies however now that one is accustomed to watching him doing difficult action sequences, his intensive efforts go unnoticed. Not just Teller, many of his fans believed that he should have deserved the nomination. Looks like fans need to wait for a while for him to bag the golden statuette.
