Meanwhile, Johnson and Rogan were both amazed that Bale kept an old car that long despite earning a lot of fortune from his Hollywood projects. Whether it has a sentimental value or he was just being frugal, the car must be very precious to Bale.

Dwayne Johnson Could Not Believe Christian Bale Owns A 2003 Toyota Tacoma

In a podcast interview via The Joe Rogan Experience, podcaster Joe Rogan and actor Dwayne Johnson discussed something they both love: muscle cars. Somewhere during their conversation, they tackled Christian Bale’s car, a 2003 Toyota Tacoma. Rogan said:

Christian Bale drives around in a 2003 Toyota Tacoma. That’s what he drives. He says it’s a good car, never breaks. He’s like, ‘If someone needs me to carry something, I can put it in the back.’ He’s an artist. He’s just pragmatic.”

Johnson initially responded with a laugh as if he could not believe Bale would own such kind of car. Then, he responded:

What’s the emotional thing? Do you think there’s a connection there? … He just doesn’t give a sh*t.”

Rogan admired Bale’s practicality, describing how the car functions and how its owner could keep it forever:

For him, ‘I drive a 2003 Toyota Tacoma.’ It’s f—king bulletproof car. They never break. You get a Toyota, those motherf—kers go forever. I have a Toyota Land Cruiser. I have a 1995 that I drove here tonight. I love it. Mine’s all redone. It’s got a supercharged Corvette engine in it.”

The duo continued discussing cars, with Johnson still surprised by the fact that Bale chooses not to upgrade his ride despite having lots of money.

In the same conversation between Joe Rogan and Dwayne Johnson, the podcaster shared with The Rock how people preferred Japanese cars over American-made ones:

There was a lot of people that didn’t want to buy American cars for a while in the ‘80s cuz they f—king broke all the time, but those Toyotas, they f—king never break. I’ve had three of those Lexus big trucks, they go forever… Electronics work flawlessly, everything’s flawless, you never have an issue. They’re just over-engineered. It’s developed a loyal fan base.”

Furthermore, Rogan told Johnson that, at some point, these sturdy cars were going to break so they would have to purchase the latest one:

You can have a 2003 and be Christian Bale, and it’s not going to break. There used to be a thing where they would sort of build in the fact that you’re going to have to buy a new one soon. They wanted things to break down so that you would have an incentive to get a new one.”

Johnson chimed in with a quote from one of Merle Haggard’s songs that goes, “I wish a Ford and a Chevy would still last ten years like they should.”
