Emma Stone’s Most Bizzare Auditions
Emma Stone is exceptional, to say the least. Having starred in multiple award-winning movies and acclaimed roles, the actress has had her share of bizarre experiences. Back in 2018, the actress starred in the eccentric director Yorgos Lanthimos‘s equally unconventional movie The Favorite.
The movie is best known for being a bit weird thanks to Lanthimos’s unique vision with offbeat humor, unconventional storytelling, and ambiguous characters. The movie nonetheless received critical acclaim for its vision and distinctive storytelling exploring themes like relationships, power, and intimacy through an unconventional setting.
Starring actors like Rachel Weisz, the movie helped propel Emma Stone’s acting genius and talent. However, the actress and all the other stars had to go through some bizarre auditioning process for their respective roles. During a press conference for the movie (via USA Today) the actress spoke up about the auditioning process.
“I auditioned for Yorgos, he had me pant like I was giving birth throughout the lines.”
Even though her character wasn’t pregnant, she had to pretend to be so during the audition. This makes one wonder why would Lanthimos want her to act that way, to which Stone remarked.
“I think he just does this to everyone.”
Which he certainly does, for other actors too had some bizarre yet fun experiences during their auditions and later during the production.
Rachel Weisz On Working With Yorgos Lanthimos
Not only is he a bizarre storyteller and a very unconventional filmmaker, but even on set Yorgos Lanthimos is known for being somewhat eccentric, but only in a good way. In fact, it is his unconventional methods that make his movies the way they are, unconventional yet gripping, unique yet intriguing, and distinct yet aesthetic.
Rachel Weisz, who worked with Lanthimos in The Lobster as well, remarked on how it was being on set and working with him (via The New York Times),
“If you asked me afterward what had just happened, I wouldn’t be able to tell you. And in fact, the experience of watching the two films, the ones I’ve been in, are unlike other films in that I’m completely surprised by what I did. Usually when you film you have a sense of what you’ve done, but with Yorgos you have no sense. If that makes sense.”
And that is exactly what makes Yorgos Lanthimos stand out from the rest.
