James Cameron has been breaking records with his new film, Avatar: The Way of Water. With the film being the sixth highest-grossing film of all time, the Oscar-winning director now has three films under the highest-grossing chart. And while the director is enjoying the massive success of the film, Matt Damon has been regretting a decision he made over a decade ago. Cameron first offered the lead role of Jake Sully to Damon.
However, due to his busy schedule, he had to reject the offer. And once the film was released, the Jason Bourne star could do nothing but regret the decision he made. And the Avatar director had the best advice for him when asked if he’s seen Matt Damon lately.
James Cameron Advices Matt Damon to Get Over It
In 2019, Matt Damon revealed that he had to reject James Cameron’s offer to star in the 2009 science fiction as he was busy with The Bourne Ultimatum. He shared that the Titanic director offered him 10% of the movie, but Cameron wanted to start filming during the post-production of The Bourne Ultimatum.
Explaining that the post-production “needed [him] to be around,” he rejected the offer. However, it went on to become one of his biggest regrets as he turned down the offer to work with the Oscar-winning director. And James Cameron has advised the Stillwater star to get over it.
During his interview with BBC Radio 1, Cameron was asked if he had a conversation with Matt Damon. The True Lies director replied, “He is beating himself up over this.”
He then advised Matt Damon to “get over it” as he is still one of the biggest movie stars. He then said that he had to “regretfully decline” the offer as he was busy with “another Bourne film.”
However, to bring “equilibrium” to the world, he promised a Matt Damon cameo in the upcoming films in the franchise. But sadly, the offer to have 10% of the film would not be applicable for the cameo.
