And along with himself, the iconic action star has also made the people that he has worked with in the past some of the most reputable individuals in the industry. Among them, one of the biggest names that come to mind is the director of his classic superhit film which also starred Toni Collette, a role that she regretted getting at first before seeing the success she received along with that movie.

Widely considered to be one of the most successful and impactful turn-of-the-century films, M. Night Shyamalan’s directorial breakthrough The Sixth Sense is still widely regarded as a classic piece of cinema to this day. Along with all the accolades, the film is also famous for making Bruce Willis the highest-paid actor in history with an unbelievable $114 Million salary for the film. But with so much praise and love the film has received after its release and over the years, it’s hard to believe that Toni Collette, Willis’ co-star in the film, was miffed about getting a role in this masterpiece.

In an interview, the Hereditary star opened up about the time when she had auditioned for two films at the same time, one of which was the aforementioned classic, while the other was for Martin Scorsese’s Bringing Out The Dead. And when she checked with the hotel staff if she had received any voicemails, she saw that she had in fact received one from her agent and manager. Therefore, she presumed that it was for Scorsese’s flick rather than the relatively unknown Shyamalan at the time, but it was the opposite. In the interview, she said:

“Night hadn’t done anything. Scorsese’s Scorsese, So, I had both my meetings and I had my hopes. [I had] a feeling some news [had] come through. And there was indeed a message from my agent and my manager at the time, and I could feel they’re all excited. [My agent] goes, ‘No, no, no, no, wait, you didn’t hear me. You’ve been offered The Sixth Sense.’ And I was like, ‘Ugh!’”

Despite being disappointed at first by the revelation, Collette still went on to do the film, and the rest is history.
