Men In Black star Will Smith’s career has apparently taken a hit since his infamous incident at the 94th Academy Awards. The actor was last seen in the movie, Emancipation, which was not received well by the audience. Now he has turned to his old-time buddy Tom Cruise to assist him in lifting his career trajectory. As per reports, Will Smith has called his friend Tom Cruise several times, but there has been no communication between the two.
Tom Cruise and Will Smith were considered best friends at a point in time, but it seems the situation has changed now. it seems the Top Gun actor is maintaining a safe distance from his former friend and is giving him a cold shoulder.
Why Will Smith needs the help of Tom Cruise?
The Gemini Man fame became the trending news in 2022 when he slapped actor Chris Rock in front of everyone for a joke he cracked about Smith’s wife. While the actor has publicly apologized for his behavior, it seems the incident is still fresh in people’s minds.
To improve his image, he wishes to collaborate with his long-time friend Tom Cruise. The movie Top Gun: Maverick did exceedingly well at the box office, and Tom Cruise was highly praised for it during award season. Will Smith was hoping to collaborate with the actor for a new project or a movie to assist him in reviving his career. Tom Cruise and Will Smith were once very close buddies, and the Mission: Impossible star even attended his friend’s TCL Chinese Theatre hand-and-footprint ceremony in 2007.

As per some reports, Cruise immediately pulled away from Smith after the latter assaulted Chris Rock on live television at the Academy Awards.

There has never been any public statement regarding any dispute between the two Hollywood stars, however, things seem to be not okay between them.

“Will has approached Tom several times, trying to reconnect and see if they can hang out and brainstorm on some projects together. A solid movie with Tom would guarantee Will’s comeback, or so he thinks. Will has even offered to fly to London if that’s more convenient, but Tom isn’t biting and doesn’t even write him back.”
It seems that Tom Cruise does not want to get involved in any drama by associating with Smith. Sources close to the actor shared that though Cruise sympathizes with Will Smith’s situation, he is not willing to risk his reputation by working with the actor.
