Anthony Hopkins called Harvey Weinstein a tyrant
The Academy Award-winning actor Anthony Hopkins had worked with producer Harvey Weinstein in a film named The Human Stain. The drama film featuring Hopkins, Nicole Kidman, Gary Sinise, and Ed Harris; was released in 2003. It was long before the #MeToo Movement became famous in Hollywood.
Harvey Weinstein became the headline of every news when the #MeToo movement was started, as numerous actresses accused him of s*xual assault and misconduct. When Anthony Hopkins was asked about his view on the producer, he shared with The Guardian,
“I did know about the person you are referring to, about his s*xual stuff. I know he is a rude man and a tyrant. But I avoided him, I didn’t want anything to do with people like that. Bullies.”
Weinstein’s high-profile accusers include Rose McGowan, Asia Argento, Gwyneth Paltrow, Salma Hayek, and Ashley Judd. The producers had denied all the claims. He is presently serving jail time for accusations of r*pe and s*xual misconduct.
Anthony Hopkins called out director John Dexter for his misconduct
Anthony Hopkins has called out several bullies in his career, for instance, once he stopped John Dexter from shouting at the cast. During the filming of M Butterfly, the director began to yell at everyone in the cast. Hopkins approached him and told him to get a hold of his temper. The star recalled,
“I said, ‘John, you don’t need to do this. You’re a great director. Stop it.’ And he cried. I mean, I understand if people are bullies. They’ve got their problems. I can’t judge them, I won’t make fun of them at awards. It’s correct for women to stand up for themselves because it’s unacceptable. But I don’t have a desire to dance on anyone’s grave.”
The star added that people can be terrible and harsh at times but they can also be kind. Hopkins added that fame and power have nothing to do with one’s behavior. He said,
“You know, I meet young people, and they want to act, and they want to be famous, and I tell them, when you get to the top of the tree, there’s nothing up there. Most of this is nonsense, most of this is a lie. Accept life as it is. Just be grateful to be alive.”
The legendary star Anthony Hopkins will be next seen in the 2024 release One Life.
