Chris Hemsworth made his MCU debut with 2011’s Thor and since then, the films have had the tradition of showing off his impressive physique on screen. The actor has trained extensively ever since he was cast as the God of Thunder to fit that monicker. His workout routine and diet have only become more intense with each sequel.

Hemsworth achieved the peak of his physique as Thor in 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder. Fueled by boredom during the pandemic-induced lockdown, Hemsworth reportedly decided that his target weight for the film would be more than the predecessors and the effort would be twice as hard.

The actor revealed in the Marvel Studios: Assembled documentary how he struggled to gain the muscle for the film,

“Each time I’ve played the character and put the muscle on and out the size on, and then lost it for something else and played another character, there’s muscle memory, and I used to say it sort of got easier each time…This was particularly hard. I think because the target weight we aimed for was quite a ways above where I’d been before.”

The actor mentioned that he was not sure whether he would be willing to put that much effort again or get as big as he was getting older. He also mentioned that his wife did not like the physique he had on Thor: Love and Thunder.

To fit the role of the Norse God of Thunder, Chris Hemsworth had to sculpt his physique to the standard of a literal God. This included extensive workouts, a balanced and powerful diet, and high energy. Hemsworth’s trainer has revealed on multiple occasions that sometimes the actor had to undergo intense processes to make sure his physique looked good on camera.

Neither the actor nor his trainers have revealed whether he has taken steroids to achieve his God-like look. However, legendary bodybuilder Ronnie Coleman theorized that the Rush star may have used steroids as it was tough to achieve such a look by just being an actor. Looking at a couple of well-known physiques on the podcast BeerBiceps, Coleman stated,

“You can see it in the way [his body] is shaped and the thickness of [his shoulders]. It is probably naturally attainable but not for him…He is pretty much an actor [as opposed to an athlete].”

Coleman is a legendary bodybuilder who is often considered to be one of the greatest in the field along with Arnold Schwarzenegger. He has won the Mr. Olympia title eight years in a row and has also won 26 International Fitness and BodyBuilding Federation titles. On the podcast, he also appreciated the physiques of footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and theorized that Dwayne Johnson could be using steroids.
