In fact, West made a hilarious theory about the connection between the director and Luke Skywalker, one of the main characters in the films. He also noted how the prequels are so much better than the Disney sequels.
Kanye West Shared A Star Wars Theory About Luke Skywalker’s Name
During his appearance in The Joe Rogan Experience, rapper Kanye West shared what he thinks about George Lucas’ Star Wars movies and how the franchise came to fruition:
“All I’ve been feeling like is when I talk, up to this point, I have just been making THX, and the toys from Star Wars have not come out first which would be like the Yeezys or something like that, and now, I’m making the whole Star Wars in real life backwards, like the product came first, kind of like Disney. Mickey Mouse became super popular before he was able to get all of his Imagineers.”
The famed rapper and fashion designer also postulated an intriguing theory that the filmmaker named Luke Skywalker after himself. He continued:
“I want to point out when people talk about being self-absorbed or the center of your own universe. What’s the main character’s name in Star Wars? Who created Star Wars? Listen to that last name. George Luke-cas. He’s the main character in Star Wars. He kissed his sister.”
That’s a pretty obvious fact, but still a witty theory. There are actually a lot of similarities between Lucas and Luke Skywalker, so it’s quite understandable if he actually named the character after himself.
Kanye West Got Mad Over Fans Slamming Star Wars Prequels
Kanye West also made a passionate speech about his love for George Lucas’ prequels in the same JRE podcast and dissed the later ones made by Disney. The rapper admitted those negative comments about the original films infuriated him:
“And this is about to make me mad, right here, the first time you’ve seen me get mad in an interview. They said that George Lucas’ prequels are worse than the corporate-made Disney Star Wars. Revenge of the Sith? We saw how Darth Vader was made! I watched that like 10 times during COVID.”
Finally, he defended Lucas’ movies and claimed that they showed the viewers the story of the hero rather than the formulaic plot lines of the modern installments. He continued:
“I’m saying even the prequels are better than anything… and I’m sorry Disney/Star Wars design team. No man, this is George. This is his baby. That thing was set in his heart to show us as children the hero’s journey.”
West became very emotional and intense while talking about the Star Wars franchise, especially when he brought up the idea that the prequels deserved more appreciation. He remarked that the films evoked so much nostalgia from the fans who had seen them when they were much younger.
Many fans also share the same sentiment as the rapper, because no matter how visually stunning the latest movies are, nothing will ever come close to the cultural significance of the original trilogy.
