Quentin Tarantino is famously known for movies like Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs. He is the king of 90s Hollywood who consistently employs a non-linear narrative structure and incorporates multiple layers that enhance the story’s complexity. It’s nearly been three decades since the last Beverly Hills Cop came out. The series’ last film, Beverly Hills Cop III, was released on May 25, 1994, which didn’t do well as other movies in the franchise did. According to The Numbers, its overall global box office collection is only $119 Million.

Quentin Tarantino seemed the perfect person to have a new way of approaching part 4 of the Beverly Hills Cop. Tarantino told Murphy his idea while writing Murphy a part in Inglourious Basterds. Murphy agreed because it motivated him to see a proper sequel to the third movie.

“The third Beverly Hills Cop was garbage. Those movies, when I travel overseas, people say [in a foreign accent] ‘Hey, Beverly Hills Cop! Axel Foley!’ They call me that s***. All the movies I’ve done, and they call me that. If we do that movie, it has to be right.”

According to Murphy, they didn’t discuss much about the movie, but he thinks Tarantino is fantastic. The actor said:

“There’s been talk. Nothing solid yet. Quentin is insane but good insane. He came to me with an idea for another Cop, and we’ve been talking about that. If it comes off, great – he’s one crazy guy worth working with.”

Why Did the Fourth Beverly Hills Cop Movie Take So Long?

A fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie titled Axel Foley will be released on Netflix in 2024 (expected). The making of the fourth movie started after the third film premiered in 1994, but it faced challenges with changes in directors, producers, and scripts. Eddie Murphy was disappointed by the ideas and scripts, but producer Jerry Bruckheimer convinced him to join the film’s sequel.
