When it comes to the action genre of films, especially during the golden age of cinema when films like these were at their peak, the stars who were known for these films were revered like none other. Among them, the name Sylvester Stallone was placed at the top with a few others who could come close in comparison.
While he was arguably at the top of his game, there was Arnold Schwarzenegger who was just as big of a name in action as he was, which naturally pinned them against each other, may it be on screen or in real life. But when it comes to showing support for each other, there is nothing but love in them for each other, something that Stallone showed when he heard of Schwarzenegger’s seemingly outlandish wish.
Sylvester Stallone Supported Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Wish To Run For President
In today’s day and age, rivalries between two major Hollywood stars may not be prominent enough, or even exist entirely, but in the past, they were what excited the public. One of the biggest rivalries of that time was none other than between Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone, two of the biggest names in the action genre of films. But while everyone remembers their heated back-and-forth through blockbuster after blockbuster, very few may remember their admiration for each other and the time when Stallone showed it publically.
During the time when the Rocky star was promoting his then-upcoming film The Expendables, he also announced that the Terminator star would be joining the roster, which caused an uproar of excitement. In a past interview, the star was talking about the film when the host brought up the statement in which Schwarzenegger stated he was willing to run for president. While many laughed at this proposition, Stallone was confident if this was to happen, then his rival would’ve easily won the election. Talking on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross, he said:
“Arnold’s a genius. I mean, seriously…he’s had three incredible careers. He may not be able to sit there and split atoms, but he knows how to get things done. He knows how to move people, and if they would allow him because our constitution doesn’t allow foreigners…considering the entire country’s made up of foreigners, they can’t run for president”
While he may not have become the president of the United States, Schwarzenegger was indeed the former Governor of California.
How Did Their Rivalary Start?
While they may be good friends today, there was a time when both Schwarzenegger and Stallone had such a heated rivalry that they would stop at nothing to beat each other at the game. It all started on the night of the 1977 Golden Globe Awards when the Rambo star reported of the bodybuilding legend laughing at him for losing the award for Best Actor.
Since then, both of them were almost at each other’s throats, trying to one-up each other on every front possible. At one time, Stallone also allegedly reported that he knew Schwarzenegger supported Nazi ideologies and gave it to a journalist to get it published and tarnish his reputation.
