Hollywood superstars Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt’s colorful relationship has been well documented over the years. The two celebrities have clashed not just as competitors going toe to toe in their films, but also as personalities on many occasions. Sometimes their feuds have taken the form of tongue-in-cheek jibes while a few others have been hostile takedowns of each other off-screen. Most recently, the Inglorious Basterds actor and the Top Gun: Maverick star were in the news again, this time with the Golden Globe awards serving as the backdrop to their verbal volleys.

Golden Globe Nominee Brad Pitt takes a dig at “Savior” Tom Cruise

Top Gun: Maverick gave Tom Cruise one of his biggest hits of all time. The film which raked in over 1.4 billion dollars worldwide was not just successful as a commercial film but also received widespread appreciation from critics. While the efforts paid off with a well-deserved Golden Globe nomination for Best film, Tom Cruise was denied a nod in the Best Actor category. This omission was further magnified by Cruise’s rival Brad Pitt’s nomination in the same category for Babylon, despite the movie hardly making a mark after its release. According to inside sources, Tom Cruise was allegedly livid at the turn of events.

“Tom expected to walk away with the award for best actor, so you can imagine his reaction when he wasn’t even on the list — he totally blew a fuse! This was the first time in years that Tom was so sure he had a slam-dunk win he was fine-tuning his acceptance speech”.

To add salt to the wound, Brad Pitt is reported to have aggravated Cruise’s misery further by gloating over his Best Actor nomination as an effort to rise above the Mission: Impossible star’s domination over the industry, especially after Cruise has been christened as the savior of Hollywood. This jibe is even more significant since Pitt is already a Golden Globe and Oscar winner for Once Upon a Time In Hollywood.

Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise’s Rivalry is Legendary

There is a long history to Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise’s rivalry and it all started with the 1994 horror flick Interview with the Vampire where the two actors collaborated for the first time. Cruise and Pitt never saw eye to eye during any part of the filming with the Benjamin Button star stating that he was miserable on set due to their opposing personalities.

“He’s always coming at you with a handshake, whereas I may bump into you. There was this underlying competition that got in the way of any real conversation.”

The two actors again went head to head in 2009 in a battle of World War dramas, Inglorious Basterds and Valkyrie. Brad Pitt won this bout easily with Inglorious Basterds becoming a runaway hit. Tom Cruise was reported to have taken this loss bitterly by calling Pitt’s film a “ridiculous movie”. This comment was later debunked as inaccurate by inside sources. With both celebrities not backing down from a challenge, it will be intriguing to witness how their relationship takes shape in the next few years.
