Capturing the very essence of what makes the MCU so special, the film, however, failed to bring a special cameo: Halle Berry as Storm. While X-Men fans will be certainly pissed, it isn’t the first time that the actress was betrayed by a Marvel movie.

Before Ryan Reynolds‘ MCU flick, Deadpool & Wolverine was released, there was a significant buzz about the potential cameos the movie could have. Many names were thrown in, yet not most turned out to be false leads. And the actual cameos ended up being a stunning surprise, a feat that no one could have even imagined in their wildest dreams.

From Wesley Snipes to Henry Cavill, the film provided fans with some of the finest cinematic moments, making Deadpool & Wolverine no less than a legendary entry into the MCU. However, the film robbed X-Men fans of a chance to bring back an iconic character from Fox’s mutantverse: Halle Berry‘s Storm.

Rumored to be in the film, the actress’s character has remained a fan-favorite mutant even years after the franchise ended. In a recent interview with ComicBook, Berry revealed if she was ever contacted for a cameo,

No. Blake [Lively] asked me one time, I ran into her at a Marc Jacobs fashion show, and she said, ‘Would you ever be in my husband’s movie as Storm?’ I said, ‘Yeah, if he asked me,’ but he never asked me.

A shocking revelation, Berry’s comments are sure to create ripples across the Marvel fandom. A surely disappointing update for X-Men fans, this isn’t the only time the actress was treated unfairly by a Marvel movie.

Halle Berry has been a beloved part of Fox’s X-Men universe. Having portrayed the weather-controlling Storm in several X-Men movies, the actress’s iconic portrayal is defined by her commanding presence and fierce dedication to the role. While she continues to be loved by fans, there was once a time when the actress was nearly betrayed by Fox Studios.

The British director Matthew Vaughn was initially in line to direct one of Fox’s worst-rated movies, X-Men: The Last Stand, but quit back then citing personal reasons (via BBC). However, in 2023, the director revealed to The Hollywood Reporter his real reason for quitting and the apparent disrespect Berry was supposed to be subjected to.

During his meeting with Fox’s executives, he was delighted to see an X-Men script written by Berry. Finding it ‘pretty cool’, he was informed by the executive that they were going to use the script as bait to make Halle Berry sign up and then chuck it out.

I was like, ‘Wow, you’re going to do that to an Oscar-winning actress who plays Storm? I’m out of here.’ So I quit at that point.

Stated Vaughn shocked and perplexed at the idea of the studio pulling a stint like this. While we don’t know what happened to the said script or whether Berry was really disrespected in this manner or not, it is shocking to learn this shocking behind-the-scenes tidbit.

X-Men: The Last Stand is available to stream on Disney Plus, while Deadpool & Wolverine is in theatres now.
