One such scene involves the barbaric death of Oberyn Martell, played by actor Pedro Pascal. This shocking scene in the fourth season of the show terrified fans, even though the actor felt rather calm.

All that blood made for a cathartic experience

The filming of Oberyn Martell’s death scene was rather brutal, it required intense choreography and lots of special effects. The scene included a brutal fight sequence between Pedro Pascal’s character and Gregor Clegane, played by Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson.

The iconic moment when Pascal’s character is defeated and Clegane or ‘The Mountain’ crushes his skull causing blood to spill out his eyes, was a shocking turn of events for fans. The scene is utmost gruesome and trauma-inducing for Game Of Thrones fans, but the actor had a contrasting experience.

Pascal in an interview on First We Feast’s Hot Ones , revealed how despite all the gore, the death scene was very relaxing for him. He said the day they shot the sequence was scorching hot, and the fake blood travelling through Björnsson’s body felt cool on his face.

It was very cathartic, and I went into the deepest sleep I’ve been in,

The Last of Us star also said that his co-star Björnsson was ‘the gentlest man ever,’ who was very careful during the final scene. Pascal had channelled all the angst and suffering of his character in the final death scene, making it a very cathartic experience.
