AMC’s Preacher had just the right blend of dark fantasy, comedy, and violence that has gripped fans throughout its four seasons. However, the third season has been marked as the strongest. Owing to the popularity of the TV series, a Preacher movie was also set to transpire from the gory and dark themes of the show, also to star Seth Rogen under the supervision of director Sam Mendes.

Ever since the show aired in 2016, multiple filmmakers have tried to develop a spin-off film on the Dominic Cooper-starrer. Rogen was quite keen on landing an iconic part in the film, thus, making a special effort to the attached director. Despite treading too close to his plans, the film never materialized.

Seth Rogen hoped for a part in a never-made Preacher film

The writers of the TV series, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg along with showrunner Sam Catlin made a huge success out of the show, earning the Best Continuing Series at the 1999 Eisner Awards. Adapted from the comics, Rogen claimed that he and Goldberg always wanted to run a Preacher show. Hence, Seth Rogen was thrilled after he stumbled upon the news of a Preacher film being helmed by Skyfall director Sam Mendes in 2008. 

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, the 41-year-old actor once recalled how he had reached out to Mendes to get a specific role. Rogen said, 

“I just found an email that I sent asking if I could audition for the role of Arseface. He said I could. But then the movie fell apart.”

Arseface aka Eugene Root, portrayed by Ian Colletti in the AMC show, is a disfigured and troubled teenager, also with a speech block. His father Sheriff Root is on a quest to hunt down the Saint of Killers and Dominic Cooper’s Jesse for heinous crimes. Wonder how Rogen’s Arseface would have turned out, but guess we will never know.

Seth Rogen’s writing precedes his acting finesse
