Comedian and talk show host Jimmy Kimmel once again took the hosting duties at the 96th Academy Awards, the second time in a row and fourth time in all. And people have started to believe that the Oscar host’s days at delivering an impressive monologue might be over. Kimmel, known for not holding back in his monologue, did the same at the 2024 Oscras, addressing everything from the 2023 Hollywood strikes to taking a sharp jab at the Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
However, the latter has not been received very well by fans, who took to X (Twitter) to share their disappointment and troll the Oscar host for his unwarranted hate directed towards the 2023 film.
Jimmy Kimmel Targets Transformers: Rise of the Bests at the 2024 Oscars
In his opening monologue at the 96th Academy Award, host Jimmy Kimmel touched upon most of the topics prevalent throughout 2023, from praising Margot Robbie’s Barbie to taking quips at Christopher Nolan’s on-set rules. His opening monologue was characterized by his trademark sarcasm and biting humor.
The host also talked about the 2023 SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes that demanded protection against AI and fair pay for writers and actors.
“We said, ‘We will not accept a deal without protections against artificial intelligence,” he said, before adding, “Thanks to this historic agreement, actors can go back to being worried about being replaced by younger, more attractive people.”
However, he further took a quip at the 2023 film Rise of the Beasts, saying, “And writers, could AI have written ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’? Yes, the answer is yes.” The seventh installment in the Transformers film series received mixed reviews and became the lowest-grossing installment in the franchise.
However, despite the film’s modest performance, Kimmel’s joke didn’t sit well with some fans, who perceived it as unwarranted and unnecessarily harsh, leading to a backlash for the Oscar host, with fans claiming that it was an unfair dig at the 2023 film.
Jimmy Kimmel Faces Backlash For His Oscar Monologue
The 2024 awards season does not seem to bode well for the award shows’ host. After Jo Koy was targeted for his lackluster monologue at the 2024 Golden Globes, Jimmy Kimmel is also facing a backlash for his monologue at the 2024 Oscars.
Fans of the Transformers franchise and others took to X (Twitter) to share their issues with his monologue. One fan quipped back at Kimmel for his AI joke, saying, “He should’ve used AI for his jokes.” Others defended the Anthony Ramos starrer, stating that despite the disappointing reception, many loved the film. “Woah woah, don’t disrespect a good movie,” another user stated.
Feel like he should’ve used AI for his jokes 😂💀🤷🏽♂️

You are not a champion of writers if you make fun of what real humans are doing. The movie is good too, this is just distasteful

Although the film received mixed reviews for its mediocre performance at the box office, fans came in support of the film, sharing that they enjoyed the film. Many also deemed Kimmel’s remarks “disrespectful,” as they shared that they are looking forward to more films under the franchise.
