What did Tom Holland say about Robert Downey Jr.’s Oppenheimer performance?
Robert Downey Jr.‘s performance was one of the most widely discussed topics when Oppenheimer was dropped. There are widespread speculations that his performance as Lewis Strauss can even land him his first Oscar. The fans were impressed when Tom Holland also came forward to support his friend/mentor’s performance.
In a recent interview for the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, the Avengers: Endgame star was asked about a star in the industry, from whom he could always expect helpful and authentic opinions. For obvious reasons, Zendaya was the first “acting confidant” who came to his mind. Following that, the next was Robert Downey Jr.
“I really respect Downey’s opinion, he taught me so much and I always sing his praises. I love the guy, I admire him. I don’t know if you guys have seen Oppenheimer yet but he’s absolutely staggering in it, he steals the movie for me.”
Robert Downey Jr. has proved to be one of the closest mates to his MCU co-star and has always been supportive of him. For achieving so much at such a young age, the Iron Man star could never stop himself from appreciating Tom Holland. During a press tour of Dolittle, Downey Jr. admitted that the two had regular FaceTime.
Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr.’s on-screen and off-screen dynamics were similar
In Spider-Man: Homecoming, we have spotted how Iron Man acts as a mature and caring mentor to Peter Parker. Tom Holland has repeatedly confirmed that their off-screen dynamics aren’t much dissimilar as well. During the press tour of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Holland confirmed to Uproxx (via Comicbook) that Downey Jr. was indeed a mentor to him, and it was very pleasing for him to have someone have his back in the industry.
“It’s a lovely dynamic and the dynamic is also the same off screen. I mean, we’ve become really close. We’ve become great friends and I ask him for advice and vice versa sometimes. And it’s just become a really lovely relationship for me to have in the industry. Because, you know, as a young actor coming up in this world it can be very scary and it can be daunting. You can get bullied around. And it’s nice to have someone who’s got my back and who will give me some sound advice.”
It is also reported that the Marvel stars were comfortable since the first day when they were introduced. Before making his MCU debut in Captain America: Civil War, when he had to give a screen test with Robert Downey Jr., Holland said that it was one of his best auditions. Their chemistry was so well since the first day, and hopefully, it will stay like this for a long time.
