Who knew we’d see the words Batman and Donald Trump in the same sentence, let alone in the same room?
Back when Christian Bale was filming the last segment in Christopher Nolan’s internationally hailed The Dark Knight trilogy, the English actor had a bizarre yet interesting encounter with the former President of the United States.
Turns out life is indeed full of surprises.
Christian Bale’s Bemusing Experience With Donald Trump
The filming of Christopher Nolan’s gritty masterpiece took place in numerous locations across the globe and one of their prime venues happened to be the luxurious Trump Tower in Manhattan. While shooting in the skyscraper, Academy Award winner Christian Bale ran into Donald Trump.
Turns out, the politician mistook Bale for the actual Bruce Wayne owing to his apparel, and that was an “entertaining” situation for the actor, to say the least (via Variety).
“We were filming on ‘Batman’ in Trump Tower and he said, come on up to the office. I think he thought I was Bruce Wayne because I was dressed as Bruce Wayne. So he talked to me like I was Bruce Wayne and I just went along with it, really. It was quite entertaining.”
Meanwhile, a few years down the line, Trump would go on to become the 45th President of the United States, and the American Psycho star most certainly did not see that coming. “I had no idea at the time that he would think about running for president,” he said.
The Bedazzling Success of The Dark Knight Rises
While Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy was an unparalleled victor in Hollywood, The Dark Knight Rises – the third and last installment in the trilogy – emerged as the highest-grossing DC Batman movie ever. Amassing over $1 billion at the global box office, the 2012 superhero action left a sizeable imprint on all of pop culture (via The Numbers).
Meanwhile, critics and fans fell to the film’s metaphorical feet, gushing about its pristine execution and deeming it the perfect conclusion to a gripping trilogy. With a 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, people couldn’t stop raving about Nolan’s cinematic supernova and the spectacular delivery of the ensemble cast.
After its historical success, there have been talks about a fourth Batman film with The Machinist star as the beloved crime-fighting vigilante. But neither Nolan nor Bale wished to be “overindulgent” (via Toronto Sun). “Chris had always said to me,” Bale, 50, recalled, “that if we were fortunate enough to be able to make three we would stop. ‘Let’s walk away after that’, he said.”
