Modern Family star Sofía Vergara jumped into the action genre in a new Netflix series, Griselda. It has six parts and was created by the same team that brought the crime drama Narcos. Recently, she did an interview to promote the mini-series, but it almost led to the cancellation of its own director.
In a recent interview with Jimmy Fallon, the Colombian TV actress shared her experience of prepping for her Netflix gig, Griselda — in which she had to pick up some seriously unexpected skills for her character.
Sofía Vergara’s Interview Nearly Nixed a Director in Chaos
During her conversation on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Sofía Vergara mentioned how she acquired some new skills while filming her new Netflix show.
It is focused on Griselda Blanco, a real-life Colombian drug trafficker known as the Godmother of Cocaine. The mini-series brings her influence on Miami’s criminal scene during the 1970s and 1980s to the forefront.
Vergara gave props to director Andrés Baiz, thanking him for teaching her how to nail the role. She said, “I didn’t know anything. He taught me how to smoke. He taught me how to do cocaine. He taught me a lot.” To this, “Alright, hold on, hold on,” Jimmy Fallon interrupted. But the actress continued:
“It was amazing because I was 51 years old, and I didn’t even know how to, you know, how to light a cigarette. I’ve never done cocaine. So it’s like, it was amazing. It was like, a great experience.”
Amidst laughs, she soon realized the error and quickly corrected herself, revealing it was all fake for the acting gig. “The cigarettes are also fake. Everything was, it’s fake.” To lighten the mood, the star added that “the acting was real,” cracking Fallon up.
Sofía Vergara Spills the Beans on the Single Life
The 51-year-old Griselda star also shared her love for New York City, saying, “It’s the people, it’s the energy. I think that you have more options with men also. I’m single now!”
In the conversation, Vergara expressed her intention to spend more time in New York City as “there’s not only like actors or directors.”
The TV host chipped in that the city also boasts great food, especially suitable for going out on dates. The co-founder of Latin World Entertainment agrees with a smile, suggesting that New York is a better place for both a lively social scene and delicious dining.
She made these remarks following her divorce from Joe Manganiello after seven years of marriage. Back in November, she was spotted on a dinner date with orthopedic surgeon Justin Saliman in Los Angeles.
Griselda is set for release on Netflix on Jan. 25.
