Charlie Cox returns for Daredevil: Born Again

Charlie Cox, star of Daredevil: Born Again, has revealed that he is training with an MMA fighter in preparation for his new MCU show. Cox initially appeared as Daredevil in Netflix’s Daredevil in 2015, playing the blind lawyer Matt Murdock. The show was a hit with both fans and reviewers, and it lasted three seasons until being canceled, along with all of Netflix’s other Marvel series.

After formally joining the MCU, Marvel stated this summer at SDCC that The Daredevil star’s character would return in his show, Daredevil: Born Again, which is set to debut as part of Phase 5 in 2024. Although narrative details for the 18-episode Disney+ miniseries have yet to be revealed, it has been announced that Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk/Kingpin will reprise his role from Hawkeye.

The combat sequences in Netflix’s Daredevil were gritty and brutal, and they were a highlight for many fans. The series was rated TV-MA, so the violence was often brutal, but it’s uncertain how the battle sequences in Daredevil: Born Again would compare. The actor is presently practicing with a mixed martial arts coach in preparation for his comeback as the iconic hero in Daredevil: Born Again.

Chris Fields stated in a recent interview that,

“I was a little hesitant when I was first asked, as my expertise is being a coach to fighters. But after meeting Charlie, I quickly realized he wanted to train exactly like a fighter. He returned to the gym after each tough session I put him through and I was blown away by his work ethic and willingness to learn – the same characteristics needed to be an elite fighter.”

While Netflix’s Daredevil depicted the superhero performing his signature flips, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law enhanced the hero’s physique by using CGI. Daredevil: Born Again might be a fusion of the two, retaining the brutal combat style of the Netflix show while also utilizing CGI to improve the character’s skills in specific moments.

The upcoming Daredevil: Born Again revival on Disney+ is unlikely to be rated TV-MA like its predecessor, but Charlie Cox’s response hints that elements of what made his first Netflix appearance so successful will be preserved.

Daredevil: Born Again is set to premiere on Disney + in 2024.
