However, the match with Nazanin Boniadi was short-lived and fell through after Scientologist Tommy Davis told her, “He wants someone who has her own power—like Nicole.” Tom Cruise’s couch-jumping confession of love for Katie Holmes then pales in front of the high esteem in which the actor held his second wife.

Recruited, selected, and prepped to marry Tom Cruise, Iron Man actress Nazanin Boniadi’s stay with Scientology was never an altruistic or religiously inclined saga. Rather, the importance of her faith was tested by and depended on her serving as the competent partner to the Church’s biggest asset of all time, Cruise. As reported by Vanity Fair, Boniadi was reportedly audited regularly, her relationship with the Iranian man she was engaged to marry was broken off after the Church exposed his affair, and she was made to sign an extensive confidentiality agreement that entirely hinged around her relationship with Tom Cruise.

The extreme grooming and molding of the activist and actress were bound to become too overwhelming at some point in their arranged saga. An incident of miscommunication with Scientology’s chief, David Miscavige reportedly resulted in her being packed off to the Church away from her shared home with Cruise. The actor allegedly never communicated about the end of their relationship with her, rather she was informed about it through alternate channels. Her connection with the Church severed not too long after.
