Rumor has it that Leonardo DiCaprio broke the nose of his Gangs of New York co-star Daniel Day-Lewis while filming a fighting scene in the movie. Indeed, it has created quite a buzz. As for the former actor Day-Lewis, who is also known for his intense take on characters, would not mind for some pain for a movie. At least looking at his acting stature and insane preparation for his roles would suggest that. But did DiCaprio really break his nose? That’s a question that needed to be debunked and DiCaprio revealed actually what happened on the set that day.

“No. That is not true. He did break his nose. There was a scene where maybe the misconception is this. He was supposed to be head-butting my face after I tried to assassinate him in front of a pagoda,” DiCaprio told Shortlist.

In fact, The Revenant star was not even near the camera when Day-Lewis broke his nose. It was “a head-butt, but it wasn’t me. It was a pillow or a sandbag or something like that. That’s when he broke his nose,” DiCaprio said. “He was smashing his face off–camera. I wasn’t anywhere near the camera,” he added. However, the Killers of the Flower Moon star had a bit of recollection of him being involved in fighting.

Leonardo DiCaprio Was Involved in Real Fight Before

Looking at DiCaprio today, it is nearly impossible to believe if could ever be involved in a real fight. He has turned a Hollywood gentleman with astounding fame and reputation to his name. However, when he was asked, the 48-year-old was rather candid about his previous involvement in fights. “Yes, I have! Yep,” DiCaprio told Shortlist about his involvement in fights with a gentle laugh.

“Oh, you know, I mean, in junior high and high school, I grew up in kind of a rough neighbourhood and I was much smaller than I am now. I didn’t go through my growth spurt until I was 15 years old. So I always sort of had to fight my way to have credibility in school and ended up with other, tougher guys,”

But it was more than one instance. “I got in lots and lots of fights in school,” DiCaprio said. “And sometimes it carried on to after school as well, but I’m pretty level-headed for the most part, I don’t ever look for it, ever, and I don’t condone it,” he continued adding,  “and it’s never something that feels good after it, that’s for sure.” If not a hardcore bad boy, DiCaprio was certainly rebellious in his youth.
