“He was the consummate professional”: Keanu Reeves and John Wick Director Chad Stahelski ‘Heartbroken’ After Lance Reddick’s Untimely Death at 60

Action films hold intrigue and thrill at every corner. Action heroes are always coming up with hijinks of their own on-screen, and in some cases off-screen as well, to impress audiences. While not an out-and-out action star himself, Hollywood star Lance Reddick caught the world off-guard in the most disheartening way possible, as he breathed his last at the age of 60 in Los Angeles.

Reddick is possibly most well-remembered for his role as Charon in the explosive John Wick series. The actor and musician had also made a name for himself on TV, starring in series such as The Wire (2002-2008), Fringe (2008-2013), and Bosch (2014-2020). He also starred in several action movies such as Angel Has Fallen (2019) and White House Down (2013).

Lance Reddick has been largely regarded as one of the nicest people in the industry, both by his millions of fans and his co-actors. His acting has been described as elegant and graceful on several occasions and in spite of playing supporting roles in most action movies, like in the John Wick franchise or in White House Down, the gravitas he lent to his roles accentuated them greatly and earned him much praise.

Reddick had grown close to actor Keanu Reeves, who plays the lead role of the assassin John Wick in John Wick movies, over the years, as he had revealed recently in an interaction. Understandably aggrieved by the sudden passing of their friend, Keanu Reeves, and stuntman-turned-director Chad Stahelski expressed their sorrow.

“[We] are deeply saddened and heartbroken at the loss of our beloved friend & colleague Lance Reddick… he was the consummate professional and a joy to work with. Our love & prayers are with his wife Stephanie, his children, family & friends.“ said Reeves and Stahelski.

Prayers and wishes for the family poured in for the family from across the industry post Reddick’s death, which was caused by natural causes on 17th March 2023.

Lance Reddick is set to feature posthumously in John Wick: Chapter 4

Lance Reddick’s last feature is set to release shortly after his death when he reprises the role of the concierge at the Continental Hotel in New York, Charon, in John Wick: Chapter 4. The actor had made his first major break with the franchise, and fans had taken an immediate liking to the supporting role and the way Reddick enhanced it with his own flair.

John Wick: Chapter 4 carries on from the events of John Wick: Parabellum, the third movie in the franchise, and sees the mercurial assassin take on the High Table. Reddick’s Charon gets killed in the ensuing fights and Reeves’ Wick is challenged by both old and new foes. The movie is set to titillate fans further with its high-octane action scenes and high-stakes storylines in a swansong finish of sorts to Lance Reddick’s career.

John Wick: Chapter 4 hits theatres on 24th March, 2023.
