In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Rick and Morty showrunner, Dan Harmon, responded to a question about a potential Rick and Morty film. Harmon initially teased the idea of making a director’s cut of a Snyder-cut version of the movie. Harmon even jokingly suggested a six-hour movie with half of it in black and white. Harmon humorously shared with The Hollywood Reporter:

“So, the Rick and Morty movie is coming as soon as Zack Snyder gets back from his vacation because I want to start with a Snyder cut of that movie and then I want to do the director’s cut of a Snyder cut release, so we can just have a six-hour Rick and Morty movie and three hours of it is in black and white.”

But Harmon was quick to clarify that his jest was inspired by Zack Snyder‘s sincere interest in contributing to a Rick and Morty film. The Army of the Dead director previously had a meeting with Harmon where he explored the possibilities of a film. Being a superfan of the show, the Sucker Punch director wanted to lend his creative ideas for a film. Harmon told The Hollywood Reporter:

“I got to meet Zack Snyder because he like called us to Warner Bros. at one point and like wanted to talk to us about doing a Rick and Morty movie. Not him saying, ‘I get to do it,’ or anything like that. He was totally a super fan and was just like, ‘Is there any way I can help get that movie started by using my Snyder-ness?’”

While Snyder’s films have received mixed reviews, they are undeniably known for their visual and conceptual brilliance. The Batman v. Superman director is next set to direct an epic space film, Rebel Moon. With some ‘Snyder-ness’, the Rick and Morty film could reach exceptional levels of creativity.

Dan Harmon concluded his response by stating that the film is “super-ready to get started”. Harmon expressed his wish that they get to make the film along with the series, so as to maintain the show’s signature tone and humor across formats. Apart from his meeting with Zack Snyder, Harmon even had discussions with Warner Bros. to discuss the prospects of the film. Harmon outlined his vision for the film with The Hollywood Reporter:

“My philosophy would be to just take a Rick and Morty adventure, and spend a bunch of extra money on it and make it 90 minutes long. Not to try to earn its feature status by virtue of canonical dramatic tone shifts or anything like that, but rather to just make it a super badass episode of Rick and Morty.”

All signs are pointing towards the beloved duo, Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith, debuting on the big screen soon, as per Zack Snyder’s wish. Rick and Morty was recently marred with controversies as Harmons’ co-creator of the show, Justin Roiland, was removed from the series after allegations of domestic abuse surfaced against him.
