Introduced only during the Thriller Bark Saga, after the Captain of the Straw Hat Pirates loses his shadow to Gecko Moria, he is fed a questionable amount of shadows from the victims present on the island. Hence, it resulted in his unique appearance, which made him look like an undead.
The form was so powerful that it not only overpowered Oars but also Gecko Moria, one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea. Despite this form not being a part of Luffy’s Devil Fruit, it made the arc all the more exciting.

One Piece Fans Want The Return of Nightmare Luffy
There’s no denying that this overpowering version of the Straw Hat Captain made the underrated arc much more intriguing and showcased what would happen if our protagonist stopped smiling and got down to business.

Nevertheless, it would be quite intriguing to see the return of this form. However, Oda-Sensei would not let nostalgia ruin his story, as that form was a one-time thing that added to the allure of the Shonen series.
