At a time when Pro wrestlers were trying to shift in Hollywood but were significantly failing, including the likes of Hulk Hogan. Dwayne Johnson was the one who broke the curse and now has become one of the known faces in the movie industry.
During the Black Adam premiere, the actor recalled his first breakthrough role which arrived in The Mummy Returns. He commended Brendan Fraser for giving him the opportunity and kickstarting his acting career. Even though the role of Mathayus isn’t considered the Rock’s most memorable portrayal, it sure did push his career forward. He further stated,
I came from the world of wrestling, which was an obstacle to come here because people–I had the sense right away that the people thought oh he’s gonna be in Hollywood maybe a couple of years, make a few movies, and then he’s out. But no, I made the Mummy returns, which Brendan said come into my franchise. He welcomed me in when he didn’t have to and he did and I never forgot it.
Since then, the Black Adam actor has become a global phenomenon and has starred in several blockbusters over the years. But without the role in The Mummy Returns, the people’s champion might not have become one of the biggest stars in Hollywood.
