Already being introduced to stardom in the late 1990s, the former hinted about how her ex-husband nearly ruined her acting career. It was because he didn’t want her to be more famous which was at a time when she just rose to the peak of her career.

The actress, Kate Winslet first tied the knot to film director, Jim Threapleton in 1998. The duo first met on the set of her 1998 drama, Hideous Kinky where the latter was working as an assistant director. The duo began their relationship quickly and shares a daughter, Mia Threapleton. Though their marital life ended in a short while as they split in 2001.

While she never revealed her relationship status at the time, back in a 2004 interview with Index, she shared how her relationship started getting toxic at a later stage.

She also opened up about how the director didn’t want her to take on major roles that would’ve further escalated her acting career.

“I started looking for supporting roles because Jim didn’t want me to be famous. He would read a script that I loved and immediately kill my passion for it by saying it wasn’t good enough for me. That was the only time in my life that I’ve ever lost control of my instincts.”

The Titanic was an epic classic which globally rose Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio into global stardom. Not only has it won fans’ hearts across the globe, but it also brought several accolades including 11 Oscars.

Given that the film was a global success, the leading cast instantly became a significant personality in Hollywood. However, the fame was not always positive.

In 2021’s appearance on Marc Maron’s podcast WTF, she talked about getting criticized by the press as the film got successful.

“It was like night and day from one day to the next. I was subject to a lot of personal physical scrutiny, I was criticized a lot and the British press were quite unkind to me.”

She added,

“I was still learning how to act, I felt I wasn’t ready to do lots of big Hollywood jobs.”

However, it eventually receded after she welcomed her daughter with Threapleton at the age of 25. While she continues to be an influential personality in Hollywood, her life is pretty much low-key as she has been successful to keep her personal issues under wraps in many cases.
