Christopher Reeve’s Son Reveals His Father’s Beloved Film
Christopher Reeve’s youngest son, Willian Reeve, shared insights on a role that had a special place in the late actor’s heart. When asked about his father’s most underestimated role following his Superman movies, he didn’t hesitate to point to the 1993 romantic drama The Remains of the Day.
He recalled an incident when a local theatre in their hometown of Bedford sought to honor the late actor by screening one of his films. And they wanted the theatres to screen The Remains of the Day, emphasizing that their father took great pride in his role in the movie. He told Variety
“He was so proud of his role in that movie. It’s not a big role. It’s an important role in the film. He got to show a completely different side of himself. I knew how proud he was of that.”
While he shared that he was proud of his Superman movies as well, he also stated that if Reeve were to choose between the two, “he wouldn’t choose Superman.” Instead, he emphasized that the late actor would have preferred the 1993 romantic drama The Remains of the Day.
Starring Reeve alongside stars like Anthony Hopkins, Emma Thompson, and Hugh Grant, the 1993 movie follows the inner conflicts of a butler, Stevens, after he learns about his employer’s Nazi leanings. The movie was a critical and commercial hit, earned eight nominations at the 66th Academy Award, and is considered one of the greatest British films of the 20th century.
