Premiered for the first time in 1999, Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece has become a fan-favorite Shonen series that has received massive love from fans. The series is primarily known for having a gripping storyline. It not only focuses on showcasing the themes of freedom and following your dreams but also displays the heinous and morbid vices present in the real world.
However, that’s not all, because the Shonen series features jaw-dropping action sequences that will keep the audience asking for more. While Toei Animation is behind the fantastic work, much of the credit goes to Vincent Chansard, one of the key figures behind the success of the adventure series.
Sadly, the animator is allegedly leaving Oda-Sensei’s magnum opus after expressing his dissatisfaction with the animation studio on social media. The fans are fuming about the announcement, as they blame Toei for messing up big time.
Toei Animation Receives Backlash From One Piece Fans After Vincent Chansard’s Announcement
There’s no denying that Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece has recently become much more exciting, and the popularity of the series has hit an all-time high with more and more viewers witnessing the alluring dream of Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat Pirate Crew.
Long-time fans of the series would have felt that, as of late, Toei Animation is doing a fantastic job of adapting Oda-Sensei’s stellar work. Vincent Chansard, a popular animator, has been one of the key figures that has made the series so addictively popular.
However, after the airing of the recent episode, he expressed his dissatisfaction with the studio on X in a 22-thread post. Surprisingly, that’s not all, because the animator mentioned that his work was changed by the studio as they decided to showcase their own narrative. As a result, Chansard is going on a break and is allegedly splitting ways with Oda-Sensei’s One Piece.
The news spread like wildfire on the internet with Pew (@pewpiece), a reliable fan page that shares everything following the Shonen series. The fan page tweeted:
Vincent Chansard announced that he’s taking a break from One Piece after expressing frustration over his action storyboard being heavily modified, almost to the point of erasure. He’ll return for the Luffy vs. Kizaru fight, and in the meantime, he’ll be working on other shows.
Clearly, fans were not delighted with the news, as they were quick to share their opinion on the post.
The fans expressed their dissatisfaction with Toei Animation and blamed them for the animator parting ways with the title.
One Piece Fans Are Blaming Toei Animation on Social Media
Vincent Chansard expressed his dissatisfaction on his official social media handle (@sparkleredpanda) on X, where he explicitly mentioned that the recent episode deviated heavily from his version, where several of his ideas were cut from the episode.
He mentioned that he was given ample creative freedom, following all the creative requests given to him. Disappointingly, Toei felt that it was not good enough and decided to air their version of the episode.
As a result, fans are fuming, and they are ready to burn down the studio if the alleged reports of the animator parting ways with Eiichiro Oda’s magnum opus become true. The fans tweeted,

Nevertheless, there’s still time for Toei Animation to treat the man better. Chansard is one of the best animators out there, and his works speak on his behalf, especially his impact frames, which have made the fans fall in love with the Shonen series. They have elevated the show’s popularity to a whole new level.
One Piece is available to stream on Crunchyroll as of August 16, 2024.
