And not just the bombastic sequel that everyone is hopping on. With mentions of the original, Pilestedt explained what the team at Arrowhead Game Studios wants you to experience, and how they want you to go about experiencing it.

The Core Design of Helldivers 2, and How Some People Have Gone Against It

Helldivers 2 is a shining example of a good co-op game.
Helldivers 2 is a shining example of a good co-op game.

First and foremost, Helldivers has always been a co-op-oriented game, meaning that going solo will place you at a great disadvantage as opposed to playing with friends. Pilestedt explains this as:

Helldivers 2 should feel like when you are going into a dark basement – You want a friend by your side.

And that’s for good reason, as the game can become quite tricky to navigate on your own, and having a teammate to help you out greatly effects both the difficulty of the game as well as the overall fun factor.

But that doesn’t mean that some players haven’t gone above and beyond:

we could only achieve this by creating the sensation that no single person can do this alone–even though some crazy people out there have done so!

The Helldivers 2 community is completely devoted when it comes to securing democracy. But none are more devoted than the solo masters. The game’s hardest difficulty is called Helldive, and let’s just say it isn’t a walk in the park. But for some players, maybe it is.

Some Solo Players Have Managed to Do the Impossible in Helldivers 2

The Helldive difficulty is not for the weak willed.
The Helldive difficulty is not for the weak willed.

As Pilestedt puts it, “feeling human is a key part to the Helldivers experience.“. However, some have showcased their insane superhuman talent by being able to extract solo. Many content creators have attempted the game solo, but obviously, when it is meant to be played cooperatively, playing solo will just make the experience ten times harder.

But some incredibly talented individuals, such as YouTuber Aculite, have managed to simply do the impossible. Defy the core design of the game and beat the game both solo and on the hardest difficulty. This requires an insane amount of planning, well-executed ideas, and, overall, a ton of skill.

And clearly, the Helldivers 2 CEO is impressed by the awesome talent that the community has shown. The devotion to securing democracy is nothing to scoff at.

Soloing the game already takes a lot, but the hardest difficulty is something else. With an insane amount of heavily armoured enemies to beat, the game provides you even less to work with, but gives you a nice reward for besting these odds.

Ultimately, it’s commendable that people like Aculite have managed to beat the game both solo and on Helldive difficulty. This community is just full of surprises. Who knows what they’ll show they’re capable of next?
