Sony has yet to enter another giant controversy, this time involving the Helldivers 2 players in a new step that will leave some players unable to play the game. From May 6, the users that have the title on Steam will have to link the account with PlayStation Network; if they don’t do this, they cannot enter the game.

Johan Pilestedt, director of Arrowhead Game Studios and the game, has confirmed this and is trying to offer solutions to the players. On X, the director is trying to calm down the situation, but he doesn’t have many answers to give.

The majority of the gaming community is very passionate and outspoken about their favorite games; Helldivers 2 is not the exception. With its latest move, Sony has made a concerted effort to infuriate as many players as possible. As of May 6, players will have to log in to a PlayStation Network account to play the game on Steam. This has made almost the whole community furious with Sony, and they are looking for answers.

This took Arrowhead Game Studios, the team behind the game, by surprise. Every developer of the title has no clear answer for the fans and the community.

Johan Pilestedt, the studio’s CEO and game director, is trying to calm down the players by answering as many questions as he can. Unfortunately, he couldn’t answer all of them and is having trouble giving a straight answer on social media.

Now the question is: how will Sony proceed with this situation?

Pilestedt clarified that this was always part of the deal, and the game description stated that the player may have to link both accounts and external accounts at some point. This was part of a discussion between the players and the director. He was trying to be direct, but for some questions he couldn’t answer, he only said that he would go back once he had more information about this new requirement from Sony.

For other doubts that the players had, he said that he was working with PlayStation to give a straighter answer. The biggest issue with this kind of requirement is that the PlayStation Network is not available in all regions, so some players will have an inconvenience entering the game once this new update hits. The dev team is working hard to bring tranquility to the game’s fans and keep things running as smoothly as possible.

The game has been making great numbers since its official release back in February, and the community is strong, with more than 200,000 concurrent players every day—something that not any Steam title can achieve. But with this new issue, the numbers could be really affected. The players want to play without so many spins; they just want to enjoy spreading democracy through the galaxy.

I'm a big fan of movies and videogames in general. I really love Pokémon and Godzilla. One of my favorite games is The Last of Us, Part II. A compelling and well-written story is always welcome.
