“Same issue with every other team weapon”: Helldivers 2 Minigun Idea Takes Notes from Gears of War, but There’s a Problem that the Community Needs to Change For It to Work

Rapid-fire miniguns can be a viable option if players are all in for teamwork in Helldivers 2!

SUMMARY

  • Helldivers 2 offers a squad-based PvE experience that requires teamwork for success.
  • One Redditor expressed interest in a two-person mini-gun weapon that would function similarly to the Vulcan Gatling Gun from Gears of War.
  • Others responded by saying people would not be on board with such an idea as it requires one person to take on a very passive role.

While it may not come across like it, Helldivers 2 is very much reliant on people working together to conquer missions. Super Earth can only reign supreme if every Helldiver walks arm-in-arm towards sweet democracy. So, while you may be playing for yourself, you need to remember that you are part of a team.

Effective teamwork would result in more than just successful missions, though. If the developers see players are open to working as a team, they may be more inclined to offer team-focused gear. One such addition is the minigun, but this would come with some caveats.

The minigun is a classic weapon found in practically every game that involves guns. While some characters may choose to handle the massive weapon solo, it is supposed to be a two-person weapon. Given its requirement for a second person to help in handling, it seems like an ideal addition for Helldivers 2.

Redditor Impressive_Truth_695 felt the same way as they made a post about the weapon on the Helldivers subreddit. They say the minigun can be well-balanced if it’s made into a team weapon. The image is that of a Vulcan Gatling Gun from Gears of War to show the coordination of the team members, and it could be added via an upcoming Warbond.

While this idea sounds great on paper, the community pointed out some very glaring flaws in the plan. The first, and most important, is that very few people would want to be the person holding the ammo. People want action, and lugging around hundreds of rounds of ammo only to have someone else shoot them is not super appealing.

Others suggested ways in which you could eliminate the need for a second person to man the gun. One comment states modern miniguns are belt-fed, so they don’t need a second person to constantly feed ammo. Another is to make the gun fire lasers, thereby eliminating high recoil and also making it easier to carry around ammo.

Helldivers 2 Fans Offer Ideas for More than Just Miniguns

The community is very forthcoming with ideas for new armor, weapons, and even stratagems. They have already given an idea for an entirely new kind of drone that would be a great tool against heavily armored enemies. There are already two drones in the game, but the Suicide Drone would be able to fly into tanked targets and inflict massive damage.

Others are questioning the use of armor in the game and why heavy armor is unable to prevent a majority of the stagger damage. The community responded to this query by stating that the developers have skewed the balance of the game in favor of the opposing faction.

As players are asking for new things to be added to the game, Arrowhead Game Studios is also working towards bringing new content via monthly Warbonds. With May approaching a close, we can expect to learn about June’s Warbond very soon, and it would be great if Arrowhead took ideas from the community.

What additions would you like to see in the new Warbond? Let us know in the comments below!
