The upcoming squad shooter Helldivers 2 just got a huge update at the State of Play event. Not only do we finally have a release date but we also got a good chunk of new gameplay footage that should keep us going until the game’s launch. If you’re a fan of large-scale, destructive combat, this game may be just what you’ve been looking for.
Helldivers 2 will see you and your friends team up against the galaxy’s most vile creatures as a group of elite soldiers tasked with protecting humanity as its first line of defense. Unlike its predecessor, this game is played from a third-person, over-the-shoulder perspective.

Helldivers 2 is Set to Release on February 8, 2024
Originally announced in May, the game was set to release by the end of this year. It seems there is a bit of a delay, but thankfully we won’t have to wait long at all to get our hands on Helldivers 2. It will be released for PS5 and Steam.

The new trailer shows some co-op gameplay, as we see the squad taking on a Bile Titan, a massive spider-like creature. The massive emphasis on teamwork can be seen clearly, as there’s this cool ability to activate a rocket launcher placed on the back of your companion.
In a PlayStation Blog post, developer Arrowhead Game Studios revealed that you’ll be able to:
explore unique planets and complete objectives together, and upgrade your equipment through the deep progression system of Helldivers 2.
There also seems to be a good amount of enemy and weapon variety in the game. The trailer features many different enemy types and cool futuristic weapons, and the gameplay looks like it’s going to become super chaotic when you combine the two.

Will Helldivers 2 Live Up to the Standard Set by its Predecessor?
The original Helldivers was both a commercial and critical success. It’s been eight years since its release. This sequel is quite a departure from the original, and that has led to some speculating whether or not the game will live up to the legacy of the first game.
But from what we’ve seen so far, despite being so drastically different, Helldivers 2 seems like a worthy successor to the original game as well as a good standalone title in its own right.
We can’t wait to get our hands on this game. As previously mentioned, the title releases on February 8, 2024, on the PS5 and PC. Pre-orders for the Standard and Super Citizen Editions begin on September 22, 2023.
