The beauty of co-op games like Helldivers 2 is that even if the gameplay isn’t super unique or enthralling, a solid buddy system can still carry it to success. People love to team up with friends and randoms and play side-by-side against a common foe.

Helldivers 2 excels in offering this kind of camaraderie in spades. Players can team up with people around the world and fight for one common cause: Democracy! This enables not only a fun experience but one that can be talked about as if it’s a war story with your brothers-in-arms doing everything in their power to secure victory.

The post by Reddit user cmurder2344 is just one example of a swathe of appreciation posts players have been uploading. In the post, the user describes how in his last mission for the day, he encountered a player named Crille wielding a flamethrower. While they initially kicked this player, Crille returned with a vengeance. The Redditor describes how the flamethrowing warrior charged into battle fearlessly, spamming stim pack after stim pack while torching hordes of bugs.

Other people shared their own battle stories in the comments. The top comment is of a random Level 10 who refused a railgun drop for their chosen flamethrower. That player impressed the commenter so much that they played together for the rest of the night.

One other user even asked the moss of the subreddit to create a new flair for such posts: “stories from the front”. It evokes a sense of unity and togetherness when a gaming community is so welcoming. The issue with a lot of online games is the toxicity these communities can foster, especially in the wait lobbies, so the Helldivers 2 experience is a breath of fresh air for many.

Another commenter shared their experience of playing with a complete team of randoms and operating as a well-oiled machine. Even without the use of voice chat, team members were able to execute orders with a simple map ping. They worked so well together that they managed to do automaton missions hard and even hit every side objective!

Helldivers 2 Player Base is a Tightly Knit Community, Despite The Bugs and Glitches

Taking down bugs is even more fun with comrades.

One of the reasons for the sense of togetherness and a lack of in-player competitiveness is that Helldivers 2 is purely Co-op. On being asked for the inclusion of PvP, Johan Pilestedt, CEO of Arrowhead Games, turned down the option saying he did not want to foster the toxicity other PvP games showcased.

Helldivers 2 is also not a perfect game as some bugs and glitches hamper gameplay. However, that is not stopping gamers from jumping into the title and enjoying killing some bugs with their friends and other players by their side.

With Helldivers 2 now one of the most played games on Steam, we can expect to encounter many more such stories of brotherhood in the coming few weeks.
