Since May of this year, Helldivers 2 has been having quite a rough time. From bad decisions to unnecessary patches, there are a ton of reasons why the majority of the players are now moving away from the game for the foreseeable future.
At the same time, using a game’s player count as a metric for whether it is dying is somewhat complicated. Helldivers 2‘s case suggests that the game desperately needs new content to revive people’s faith. While Arrowhead cooks, it may also be time to bring the game to the platform full of people awaiting the game’s arrival.
Does Helldivers 2’s Low Player Count Mean That the Game Is Dying?

Ask anyone who has stuck with Helldivers 2 long enough, and they’ll mention how much the game suffers from a lack of meaningful progression and content.
Once you hit the endgame, there’s little you can do except log in for an hour or two every week and engage in some basic grind, which is where all the online discussions could stem from.
Adding to this how Arrowhead is seemingly mismanaging the game’s balance and reintroducing bugs that were once thought gone, and it’s easy to see why it’s been tough to keep the faith alive.
As stated previously, however, even a significant drop in the player count does not suggest the game is dying. Like any other live-service title, say Destiny 2 or Final Fantasy XIV, it only means that there needs to be more content in the game to ensure a high player count.
Look on the brighter side, though – Helldivers 2 no longer suffers from any tourists to the game, meaning that Arrowhead can focus on producing more focused and better quality content for its core audience, and any who jumps into the game now would only be a part of said audience.
Is It Time for Sony to Bring Helldivers 2 to Xbox and Give It a New Lease on Life?

Although Arrowhead may be busy cooking up new content in the background to rekindle players’ motivation to play the game, somebody must also keep Sony happy.
While we have already discussed the players’ side of things, to keep Sony’s faith in Arrowhead going, the player count certainly needs to increase, which is where Xbox can be of tremendous help. After all, the people of Green Hill have been waiting for Helldivers 2 to arrive on their platform for a long time.
At this point, it seems like a proper win-win for all. Xbox players can finally get their hands on one of the best games of 2024, and Sony can keep their pockets full with all the Helldivers 2 money for a little longer. While it sounds like a great decision on paper, only time will tell if Sony would actually go for it.
