Helldivers 2 is a big jump from its predecessor and has kept players interested ever since it dropped. While it may seem like the game is great simply because it’s made so well, the truth behind its development actually centers around how the team wants this game to always feel fresh.

In an interview recently, Johan Pilestedt spoke about the team’s experience working on the game, and the changes that are always a work-in-progress. This design philosophy allows them to make Helldivers 2 an experience that always keeps things fresh and interesting.

The updates are gonna keep the live-service experience fresh.

In an interview with the CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios (Johan Pilestedt), PlayStation Blog delved deeper into the team’s journey as they built Helldivers 2’s iconic gameplay experience. From having access to a plethora of weapons and stratagems to accessing multiple planets with different enemy types; Helldivers 2 has come a long way.

And, this universe couldn’t have been possible if the game stopped at something. In its true essence, Helldivers 2 will keep evolving, and Johan puts it very well:

So much! The game is designed from the ground up to be an expandable universe. We have grand plans, but we do not want to make any early announcements as we love to surprise and delight players with new stuff. What I can say is that we have a massive list of quality of life improvement ideas that we source from the community.

Undoubtedly, the team is very much in touch with the online community, and feedback is something they dearly hold close to the development process. This hints at a roadmap that will be filled with new updates that not only optimize the game but add new content every now and then.

Helldivers 2’s players work and move as one unit

The community-based experience is enriched thanks to community feedback.

When you take a step back and look at Helldivers 2 as an experience crafted in unity, it’s tough to comprehend how millions of players are actually working towards a single goal. In retrospect, the game may have started as an attempt at building the perfect co-op experience, but it is becoming something much larger.

With the constant updates and changes to mechanics, players are finding new ways in which aliens are fought and democracy is restored. However, that’s one of the goals the player base aspires to achieve. The larger galactic battle that spans across different planets is something massive, and a single player’s contribution eventually adds to this journey.

Moreover, players get to see this progress, and periodically achieve rewards based on how well and how often they contribute. Talk about crafting the perfect live service model! This is one of the key philosophies for the team to rely on.
