Henry Cavill has been one of the frontrunners for taking over the star-studded throne of James Bond and it looks like the Man of Steel star is only inching closer toward the possibility of getting crowned as the unrivaled MI6 agent.

For the past few months, Cavill has been in the talks to step in the shoes of the much-coveted role of James Bond, a character previously represented by Daniel Craig in five installments of the franchise spanning over the course of 15 years, give or take. And now, the Enola Holmes star might just be the next in line.

While there have been various other candidates filtering in and out of the race to become the next agent 007, including renowned actors like Bullet Train star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Peaky Blinders star Tom Hardy, and Rogue Agent actor James Norton, Cavill seems to be the only one who has consistently maintained his position in the race as one of the top competitors. And it looks like even the UK public is rooting for the former Superman to become the next best British secret agent.

Henry Cavill Edges Closer Toward Bagging James Bond’s Role

This is not the first time Henry Cavill has been skirting around the possibility of playing Bond on the screens. Back in 2006, The Witcher star had even auditioned for the role, only for the director to dismiss him due to his weight. Little did he know though that Cavill would end up turning into a British heartthrob with a body that looks like it has been sculpted by Michaelangelo himself.

But while this isn’t the only time that he’s running for the role, it certainly might become the time when he finally ends up claiming it.

Henry Cavill would be the perfect fit to portray James Bond

According to new reports, Cavill, 39, “has this month been the subject of more bets on Daniel Craig’s replacement than any other name,” his current odds of 5/2 increasing his chances of bagging the title of James Bond colossally.

The Mission: Impossible – Fallout star seems to be racing ahead in the game, leaving some of the most top-grade contenders including Tom Hardy and Rege-Jean Page behind, the current odds of whom are 8/1 and 9/1 respectively.

Will Henry Cavill Become the Next James Bond?

It’s not just that the odds seem to be in Cavill’s favor, metaphorically and literally, but also the fact that the Dawn of Justice star would definitely kill it as Bond and the plethora of espionage/thriller films that he’s done attest to the same.

From portraying the famous and shrewd detective, Sherlock Holmes in Enola Holmes to working as a dashing CIA agent in Guy Ritchie’s The Man from U.N.C.L.E, Cavill has more than enough experience in the ‘secret agent-slash-womanizer’ department. Needles to say, James Bond would fit him just perfectly.

But while Cavill has reserved a spot at the very top of the list for becoming the next Agent 007, Aaron Taylor-Johnson still seems to be giving him tough competition for the same. So, only future will tell whether the former’s fans will be celebrating or licking their wounds.
