Henry Cavill’s departure from The Witcher sent shockwaves through fandom, fueled by whispers of creative clashes. Reportedly, he saw the writers straying from the source material, a move that clashed with his reverence for the original stories.
This experience seems to have fueled his passion for a different project – leading the charge on crafting the Warhammer 40,000 cinematic universe for Amazon. Cavill will be an executive producer and has signed up to appear in the project. To ensure the universe’s rich lore remains untarnished, Cavill is personally leading an “Elite band of screenwriters.“
Amazon Studios has Secured the Rights to Warhammer 40,000
Amazon Studios has officially acquired the rights to the Warhammer 40,000 universe, spanning series, film, and more. The speculation surrounding Henry Cavill’s involvement in a Warhammer 40,000 series has now been confirmed with an official announcement.
In the announcement, Henry Cavill expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “I have loved Warhammer since I was a boy, making this moment truly special for me.”
“The opportunity to shepherd this cinematic universe from its inception is quite the honour and the responsibility. I couldn’t be more grateful for all the hard work put in by Vertigo, Amazon and Games Workshop to make this happen. One step closer to making a nigh-on lifelong dream come true.”
“All we can tell you right now is that an elite band of screenwriters, each with their own particular passion for Warhammer, is being assembled to help bring the setting and characters you love to the screen,” Games Workshop said in a new statement.
Of the franchise, Henry Cavill said:
“Genuinely can’t get enough of the lore they have built over the decades. They have been some of my most enthused reads! If you were in denial about me being a geek before, you can’t hide from it now.“
With Cavill’s evident passion for the franchise, his role as the key figure in the Warhammer universe seems fitting.
Henry Cavill Left The Witcher for This Reason
Last year in October, Henry Cavill announced that he would not be reprising the lead character of Geralt of Rivia after the third season of the Netflix series, The Witcher.
Henry Cavill is known to be a big fan of The Witcher game series and the book series and said that he wanted to be faithful to the source material. Many reports also claimed that the British actor left the popular show due to the writers disrespecting the source material for The Witcher.
While nothing is confirmed as of now, the showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has shared that she and Cavill had different approaches for the future of the series.
This passion for the series even influenced the way he portrayed the character of Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix adaptation. He went as far as to adopt a distinct accent to further establish the character of Geralt of Rivia and regularly insisted that the show should stay true to the source material.
And now Cavill himself is steering the wheel to not let the writers butcher the lore.
