Judging by the trailer, Argylle looks to be a quintessential globetrotting thriller that has all the elements of a James Bond flick including the Man of Steel star’s slick physicality that mirrors many aspects of the 007 agent. But Cavill was quick to point out that his titular character had his own unique sensibilities and did not derive inspiration from James Bond.

When asked about the Bond connection, The Witcher star denied being influenced by the suave 007 agent. In an interview with Screen Rant along with Sam Rockwell, Cavill spoke about the unique aspect of his protagonist that made him stand out from other famous fictional spies, and elaborated on the homework he did to bring the role to life.

I didn’t specifically draw any inspiration from anywhere else. I think the line to walk on this one was Argylle, without spoiling too much. He takes himself very seriously because his situation is very much real and heart-attack serious in his head. But as far as the tone of the movie is concerned, you’re not taking Argylle too seriously, and so it’s a fine line to tread between the two.”

Cavill also praised his co-star Rockwell for his wholehearted dedication and submission to his character and believed that this was a motivating factor for him to give his best to the film as well.

This Henry Cavill Argylle Scene Could Become Memorable

The trailer of Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle has dropped online and is already being highly anticipated not just for Henry Cavill’s presence, but also for the action scenes that look to be creatively choreographed. In the trailer that does not give anything away, a brief sequence on a train involving Sam Rockwell and Cavill looks to be one for the books.

The British actor’s titular protagonist who is actually a fictional hero in Bryce Dallas Howard’s character’s novel, is continuously seen by the author as her savior from spies in place of her actual geeky protector played by Rockwell. This required both actors to mimic each other’s moves to precision as each of these segments had to be shot one after another in exactly the same fashion and edited accordingly to create the scene.

The DC alum and the Jojo Rabbit star spent a lot of time and effort to mirror each other’s movements to perfection. Cavill in an interview with Entertainment Weekly while promoting Argylle, revealed how he and Rockwell worked through these challenges and fed off each other’s strengths to produce a satisfying end product.

“Sam and I were watching each other and just trying to make sure that we had a similarity of movements. Certain movements worked better for him, so I would mimic those, and then different movements in other places worked better for me, so he would copy those. Fight scenes are tricky and complex, especially in a cramped space like that with lots of hard edges.”

Cavill was also grateful to be able to do an arduous fight scene with a competent co-star like Rockwell instead of going through the rigors all alone.

Argylle is set to release in theaters worldwide on 2nd February 2024.
