It was a really disappointing time when Henry Cavill announced that he was finally hanging up the Superman suit for good. His exit from the DCEU was mourned by many fans, as well as his departure from The Witcher series, but it seems a new door of opportunity awaits the actor.
Recently, rumors claim that Cavill might be running for the role of Captain Britain, a part that the actor once profusely expressed interest in. This is not a new trend in the superhero realm where actors jump to a rival franchise. Indeed, fans are very excited to see the Enola Holmes star make his MCU debut.
Henry Cavill Is Keen On Becoming MCU’s Captain Britain
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, actor Henry Cavill revealed which Marvel hero he would like to play someday. He tried not to pick from those already occupied but chose a character that was equally popular and had a distinct connection with him.
“I have the internet, and I have seen the various rumors about Captain Britain, and that would be loads of fun to do a cool, modernized version of that — like the way they modernized Captain America. There’s something fun about that, and I do love being British.”
There is a high chance that Cavill would land the part given that he’s British and he’s also not done playing superhero roles. The actor has no plans to stop making action movies and wants to do this even in his 50s.
“I’m very happy to keep doing movies that use action as a form of storytelling, and I have no particular desire to say, ‘I just want to do drama now.’ I enjoy being in the best shape of my life, year after year, despite the injuries. I want to be pushed so I can get better. I don’t want to sit down.”
Following the reports that Cavill has been cast in a major MCU role, insiders have debunked the rumor that he’s playing Dr. Doom in The Fantastic Four. It turns out, he has been tapped to play a different role, but it remains undisclosed.
More DC Actors Who Became Marvel Stars
Henry Cavill will not be the only actor to swap teams and join the MCU after working in DC movie franchises. Remember when Tom Hardy played Bane in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises? He totally nailed the part, though he was not able to reprise the role anymore.
In 2018, he played Eddie Brock in Venom, and while the movies aren’t technically canon to the MCU, it’s still part of a larger Marvel universe.
Another actor who made the jump is Michael Keaton; he previously portrayed Bruce Wayne in Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman film. He joined the Spider-Man franchise in 2017 as Adrian Toomes, aka Vulture.
Finally, there’s Ryan Reynolds who went from starring in the critically panned Green Lantern film to becoming Marvel Studios’ funniest and deadliest mercenary, Deadpool. If Henry Cavill is truly joining the MCU as Captain Britain, then he’s already got company.
